The first Russian word I learned was 'spasibo' meaning 'thank you'.	제가 처음 배운 러시아 단어는 '고맙습니다' 라는 의미의 'спасибо' [스빠씨바] 입니다.
I asked my Russian roommate one day what the Russian word for 'thank you' was, at which she smiled affectionately and pronounced the word, kindly adding the explanation that 'bog' means 'God' in Russian so whenever Russians say 'spasibo,' they thank God, too - or something like that.	어느 날 러시아 룸메이트에게 '고맙습니다'에 해당하는 러시아어가 뭐냐고 물어봤더니 다정하게 웃으면서 그 단어를 발음해 주었습니다. 그리고 'бог' [복] 이라는 말이 러시아어로 하나님이라는 뜻인데 러시아 사람들이 'спасибо' 라고 할 때마다 하나님께도 감사하는 셈이라고 친절하게 설명을 덧붙여 주었습니다.
I really didn't feel anything odd about it at that time.	그 때는 'спасибо' 라는 말이 이상하다고 전혀 생각하지 못했습니다.
As time passed by, however, it dawned on me that it might sound like, well, a swear word, to some Koreans since the 'sibo' part sounds similar to a Korean curse 'sibal'.	그런데 시간이 지나면서 이 단어가 한국어로 욕처럼 들릴 수도 있겠다는 생각이 들기 시작했습니다. 왜냐하면 'сибо' [씨바] 라는 부분은 한국어 욕인 '씨발'과 비슷하게 들리기 때문입니다.
The 'spa' part doen't help to ease the feeling conveyed by the pronunciation because it can also be regarded as a variation on 'sibal'.	спа' [스빠] 라는 부분도 '씨발'의 변종이라고 볼 수 있기 때문에 어감을 완화시켜 주는 데는 도움이 안 됩니다. -_-
Perhaps it's one of the reasons why my students go wild at the expression.	아마도 그래서 제 학생들이 이 말에 열광하는 것 같습니다.
Whenever I tell them I learn Russian, they ask me to teach them some.	제가 학생들에게 제가 러시아어를 배운다는 말을 하면 학생들은 꼭 저에게 러시아말을 몇 개를 가르쳐 달라고 부탁합니다.
At their request, I usually teach them 'da', 'nyet', 'privyet' and 'spasibo' one by one.	그러면 저는 보통 'да' 'нет' 'привет' 'спасибо'를 하나씩 가르쳐 줍니다.
As I teach them the Russian words my students' reaction is pretty enthusiastic, their eyes twinkiling, their ears pricked up and it reaches its peak when they hear the word 'spasibo'.	제가 학생들에게 러시아어를 가르쳐 줄 때 학생들의 반응은 열광적입니다. 눈을 반짝이고 귀를 쫑긋 세우고 열심히 듣습니다. ^^ 그리고 'спасибо' 에서는 학생들의 반응이 최고조에 달합니다.
They burst out laughing and happily repeat it after me in a loud voice just like little baby birds beginning to learn to sing, leaving me to wonder whether I am an English teacher or Russian.	'와하하' 하고 웃음을 터뜨리고는 마치 노래를 배우기 시작하는 아기새처럼 저를 따라서 'спасибо' 를 큰 소리로 따라 합니다. 그럴 때면 제가 영어 교사인지 러시아어 교사인지 헷갈립니다.
