	Korea's Birth Myth 단군 신화
This is Korea's birth myth, called Dangun Myth.	우리나라의 건국 신화는 단군 신화라고 합니다.
Hwanin (God) had several sons and among them was a son named Hwangwoong.	환인에게는 여러 아들이 있었는데, 그 중에 환웅이라는 아들도 있었습니다.
He had great interest in what was happening here down on earth, desiring to be the humans' leader and guide them.	환웅은 지상에서 일어나는 일에 관심이 많았고 인간들을 다스리고 싶어했습니다.
With his father's permission, he descended to the earth with three gods - Pungbaek (god of wind),  Woosa (god of rain), Woonsa (god of cloud) - as his aides and other 3,000 heaven people.	아버지의 허락을 받고 환웅은 신하인 풍백 (바람의 신), 우사 (비의 신), 운사 (구름의 신)와 기타 3 (삼)천명의 무리와 함께 땅으로 내려왔습니다.
One day, a bear and a tiger visited him and asked him to turn them into humans.	하루는 곰과 호랑이와 환웅을 찾아와 사람으로 만들어 달라고 부탁했습니다.
He handed them mugwort and garlic, telling them if they prayed hard for 100 days in a cave eating nothing but mugwort and garlic, their wishes would come true.	환웅을 쑥과 마늘을 주면서 곰과 호랑이가 동굴에서 100 (백)일 동안 쑥과 마늘만 먹으면서 열심히 기도하면 사람이 될 거라고 말했습니다.
The two went together into a cave and only ate garlic and mugwort, but the tiger was an impatient creature; it was too painful for him to live on the two types of vegetables.	곰과 호랑이는 같이 동굴 속으로 들어가서 마늘과 쑥만 먹었습니다. 그런데 호랑이는 인내심이 없는 동물이었습니다. 쑥과 마늘만 먹으면서 지내기가 너무 힘들었습니다.
He quit and failed to meet the condition to be a human.	호랑이는 도중에 그만 뒀고 사람이 되기 위한 조건을 충족시키지 못했습니다.
The bear, however, endured till the last minute and as the term was over, became a woman.	그러나 곰은 마지막 순간까지 견뎠고 그 기간이 끝났을 때 여자가 되었습니다.
Woongnyeo (bear woman) got married to Hwangwoong and gave birth to a son called Dangun.	웅녀는 환웅에게 시집을 갔고 단군이라는 아들을 낳았습니다.
He established a country, named it Josun, and made Asadal its capital.	단군은 나라를 세워 이름을 조선이라 하였고 아사달을 도읍으로 삼았습니다.
